The contracts awarded to the yard and rig contractor cover construction and operation of the high-specification newbuilds that will be used for production drilling to extend the lives of the Gullfaks and Oseberg fields off Norway.
The GustoMSC CJ70-design units, which will be owned within the licences rather than by the contractor, are intended to boost recovery from the mature North Sea fields and are part of Statoil’s effort to secure long-term rig capacity and cut drilling costs under its Category rig programme.
