Margareth Ovrum, head of technology, projects and drilling at Statoil, said the company has started development work in-house and will invite the supplier industry to participate only “in a few years’ time”.
“We are now stepping up our efforts and working on more Arctic-specific technologies to prepare for future challenges,” Ovrum told reporters at ONS in Stavanger, adding that Statoil will, from 2012 to 2013, triple its Arctic research and development budget to Nkr250 million ($43 million).
