The state-owned explorer will mobilise Diamond Offshore’s 1982-built semi-submersible Ocean Vanguard for drilling of the 7125/4-3 probe that will target hydrocarbon potential in the Jurassic-aged Sto, Nordmela and Tubaaen formations in production licence 615, with an estimated duration of 31 days.
It will be the first of two keenly watched wildcats to be drilled in the northernmost part of Norway’s continental shelf, with a subsequent probe lined up at the Atlantis prospect in the same licence, operated by Statoil on 35% with partners ConocoPhillips (25%), OMV (20%) and Petoro (20%).
