The Norwegian player will take over Vale’s 25% share in the BM-ES-22A block, comprising the ES-M-468 and ES-M-527 tracts, where Brazilian state-owned Petrobras is the operator with 75%.

“The acquisition allows Statoil to expand its position in a prioritised basin for the company. The position is in line with Statoil’s exploration strategy of deepening core areas,” said senior vice president for international exploration, Nick Maden.
