The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has given clearance to Strata-X to sink the first well of the company's Vail oil project, the Burkett 5-34H. The well is permitted to drill to a vertical depth of around 4500 feet and a horizontal length of 4300 ft.
That will put the probe below the New Albany source rock into a Devonian dolomitic limestone known as the Lingle.
