The southern Africa-focused company stated that during drilling of the 504-metre deep MOP002A core hole, 38.2 metres of net coal thickness was measured from an intersection of the Ecca coal package. Initial field and laboratory gas measurements from 29 coal samples indicated that the coals have “excellent levels of gas saturation”.
According to Sunbird, the 38.2 metres of net coal thickness was above the pre-drilling expectations of 32 metres, and more the double the 15-metre coal thickness estimated by independent experts.
