The New Zealand-focused explorer said on Monday that the deep Cardiff-3 well, which was spudded in its wholly-owned petroleum exploration permit 38156 in September, had encountered a high permeability hydrocarbon-bearing zone in the McKee sands at about 4100 metres down hole.
After drilling through the sands and into the second target zone, K1A, Tag hit additional encouraging gas kicks of up to 20 times background levels.
