The Cardiff-3 well was drilled to a final depth of 4863 metres in December and logged over 230 metres of potential net pay while targeting three zones in the Eocene-aged Kapuni formation, the Canadian company said Thursday.

The well took longer than expected to reach total depth due to thick coal sections in the Eocene-aged Mangahewa Formation.

Flow tests will come next, for which the company will first target perforation and potentially hydraulic fracturing at the Kapuni K3E zone.
