The Gannet field was the site of the UK’s worst spill in a decade in August 2011, when about 1300 barrels of crude leaked into the North Sea from a subsea pipeline running from the Gannet F field to the Gannet Alpha platform.
As part of the remediation process, Shell said last September it was using subsea pumps to retrieve the oil and send it to storage tanks on a recovery vessel.
