The Canadian ship owner is acquiring ALP Maritime Services and, as part of the deal, has hatched orders for four towing and anchor-handling newbuilds in Japan.

The combined value of the acquisition and orders is $260 million, Teekay said on Friday.

The SX-157, Ulstein-design units are to be built at Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair.

They will be ultra-long-distance units, equipped with dynamic-positioning capability.
