Chancellor George Osborne is set to revealthe investment during a speech to be given on Friday, the UK’s NationalEnvironment Research Council (Nerc), which is to commission the vessel, said.
The new unit, set to enter service in 2019,will be funded out of the country’s capital investment fund for science, with aprice tag of some £200 million ($336 million).
Early design studies have already beencarried out by no final design or shipyard have yet been chosen.
