The report by Durham University Energy Institute’s shale research consortium ReFinE (Researching Fracking in Europe) said that not enough data existed in the public domain about well integrity issues around Europe.

The report published in the journal Marine and Petroleum Geology said that of the international and historical data examined, well integrity incident rates varied widely.

The authors noted that there were a larger number of well barrier incidents in which only part of the well’s defences were affected than outright well integrity issues in which the overall integrity of the well was compromised.
