Nearly 1600 businesses were examined in the project, carried out by professional services firm Ernst & Young (EY) on behalf of industry association Oil & Gas UK, with the support of the UK government.
EY published two reports on Wednesday, the first of which mapped an industry with a total turnover of £35 billion, based on 2012 figures, 42% of which was devoted to exports.
