In a new security briefing, UK-based Maplecroft’s chief Middle East and North Africa analyst Anthony Skinner said that players could face “costly de-mining programmes” if mines are discovered in and around their operations.
He cited a recent warning by Harvard University’s International Human Rights Clinic that Libya was ‘awash in weapons, ranging from bullets and mortars to torpedoes and surface-to-air missiles’, and that much of the ordinance left over from the uprising was ‘often unsecured and unstable’.
