The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) signed off on Thursday to the request to build a 24-inch pipeline from Hidalgo County, Texas under the Rio Grande to the Mexican border.
Energy Transfer's 23-mile, 24-inch Edinburg Extension was proposed in October 2013 and would tie existing US networks into the border crossing with capacity of 140 million cubic feet per day.
The Ferc, tasked with being sure export projects do not harm the US national interest, said in its decision that the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta) signed by both countries provides for a free exchange of energy supplies.
