The report by UK-based political risk analysis firm Maplecroft pointed out that vice-president Maduro enjoys a 14-point lead over his nearest rival in the opinion polls, and crucially has been Chavez’s personal choice as his successor since last December.
“The leadership of Maduro, whose election would constitute an attempt to ensure ‘Chavismo without Chavez,’ appears to have been widely accepted by party followers and will prevail in the short term,” commented senior Latin America analyst and report author Jimena Blanco.
