The report outlines a number of objectives including providing for “future United States energy security” and “protecting the Arctic”.
The US Defence Department will lead an interagency effort to forecast icy conditions, while the Department of Commerce will leave the effort of surveying and charting US Arctic waters.
A number of federal agencies will work on improving oil spill prevention and containment, in co-ordination with Alaskan authorities.
