Thewell,formally known as 6407/1-7,is being drilled to assess the lateral extent and size of the LowerCretaceous Rodriguez discovery where movable hydrocarbons were discovered in sandstone layers in the Lange formation last year.
TheRodriguez discovery has been estimated to hold between 19 million and126 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent.
Theappraisal well is being drilled using the semi-submersibleBorgland Dolphinina water depth of 281 metres about five kilometres north-east of theRodriguez discovery well.
