The MacKay River oil sands plant site is located north-west of the city of Fort McMurray, in the Athabasca area of Alberta. Upon completion, the project is expected to be capable of producing 35,000 barrels of oil-sand bitumen per day.
Upstream revealed in July that the engineering pair were finalising their consortium, with WorleyParsons planning to engage its Canadian subsidiary WorleyParonsCord to act as lead contractor while CPECC would be responsible for prefabricating some of the required equipment in China.
