Oklahoman independent WPX Energy has hired Rick Muncrief from Continental Resources to become its new chief executive.
55-year-old Muncrief, a petroleum engineer by training, was most recently senior vice president of operations at Continental Resources, where he is being replaced in-house by Gary Gould.
The natural gas explorer and producer, which was spun off pipeline operator Williams in 2011, has suffered losses for seven straight quarters amid the historic slump in North American gas prices.
