The well is set to test a four-way anticline oil prospect with upper Cretaceous sands, which the operator believes is analogous with some more recent South American finds - such as Tullow’s Zaedyus discovery off French Guiana - due to the both land masses sharing a common geological history prior to the continents separating.

As of mid-November, the Sabu-1, being drilled by drillship Jasper Explorer, was below 1440 metres and had set 20-inch casing.
