The film was co-produced by gas-rich Qatar’s Doha Film Institute and Quinta Communications, reportedly with an eye watering $55 million budget.
It is thought this makes it the most expensive film ever made on the Arabian Peninsula.
The adventure, directed by Jean Jacques-Annaud, is an adaptation of Hans Ruesch’s classic novel The Great Thirst and stars Antonio Banderas, Tahar Rahim, Freida Pinto and Mark Strong.
