The ladder allowed workers from incoming supply vessels to board the platform, owned and operated by Gazprom’s subsidiary Gazpromneftshelf.
The damage seemed to be widely expected by the platform’s personnel, with at least two videos of the event shot from different angles hitting video websites such as YouTube.
One began at least three minutes before the moment it was lost.
Gazpromneftshelf downplayed the loss, saying personnel are arriving at the platform by helicopter and that the ladder was only in temporary use.
