According to information company IHS, 12 pipelay vessels capable of installation in 1500-metre water depths were delivered in 2014. Another 26 pipelay vessels are under construction and due for delivery between now and 2018, most of which will be equipped for deep water. Almost half of the deepwater-capable newbuilds due for delivery over the next few years are pipelay support vessels (PLSVs) ordered on the back of long-term contracts with Petrobras, says IHS subsea analyst Teresa Wilkie.
