Petrofac entered the decade with plans to expand its offshore construction capabilities. The company established a new Offshore Capital Projects business unit in 2012, building on the acquisition that same year of UK-based KW Subsea. Shortly after, the company made its subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (Surf) ambitions clear with the news that it would build its own deepwater pipelay and construction vessel.
