The CO2 Multistore project, led by researchers from Scottish Carbon Capture & Storage, was carried out to give confidence to regulators and investors about the secure storage of CO2 if it is injected in more than one site in a geological formation.

The project was backed by the Scottish government, Scottish Enterprise, the Crown Estate and Shell. “It is an important step in the gradual process of developing the UK’s vast CO2 storage potential, which has been estimated at 78 billion tonnes,” the SCCS said.
