Using carbon dioxide for enhanced oil recovery in the North Sea could have an economic multiplier of £7.20 for every £1 invested — almost three times more than carbon capture and storage without enhanced oil recovery.
The process could and add as much as 1 billion barrels to UK oil production from fields in the Central North Sea.
These were the main findings of a joint industry report exploring what it would take to build a CO2-based EOR industry in the UK by the Scottish Carbon Capture & Storage (SCCS) research group, with funding from the Scottish government, Scottish Enterprise, 2Co Energy, Nexen and Shell.
