The operator took its Gulf of Mexico field in Green Canyon Block 859 from project sanction in May 2013 to first oil in January 2016.
Anadarko centred its Heidelberg and Lucius projects on the truss spar concept (Upstream Technology 4, 2013). Lucius, in 2160-metre water depth in Keathley Canyon Block 875, reached first oil in 2015.
According to the operator, using the design one, build two approach meant a 13-month reduction from concept selection to cutting first steel — a process that took 18 months for the Lucius hull but just five months for the Heidelberg hull.
