Early this year, Statoil announced that it had selected an unmanned wellhead platform (UWP) concept for the first phase of the Oseberg Future project, the first of several installations and upgrades designed to keep the venerable Norwegian North Sea field pumping until around 2040.
The decision gives credence to the notion that the UWP could become a widely used option for bringing small fields into production using existing infrastructure, rather than the subsea developments that have been the hallmark of Statoil’s fast-track projects of late.
