Statoil’s ambitious effort to transfer gas compression from topsides to the seafloor to boost recovery at mature fields will be put to the test later this year when the world’s first subsea wet gas compressor station is brought online at the Gullfaks South field off Norway.

The recent delivery of the $107 million unit by OneSubsea marks the realisation of a decades-long engineering dream to develop the groundbreaking technology, seen as the key building block of a future subsea factory for full processing and production on the seabed.
