The first foray came in 2008 when US regulators published a notice to lessees with details for the use of MPD with surface blowout preventers on the US outer continental shelf.
The International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) has worked hard to help develop American Petroleum Institute (API) Recommended Practice 92M, which covers MPD from surface stacks and is set for publication this year.
