The drive to tackle high-temperature, high-pressure developments in the promising but challenging Lower Tertiary play is pushing ahead even in a low oil-price environment.

Early manufacturing, testing and qualification is well underway for items such as blowout preventers and subsea equipment, with first deliveries scheduled for 2017 or 2018. “This is a new frontier within the basin that represents a true growth potential in terms of the volume, but also in terms of profitability,” says Lars Eirik Nicol­aisen, a partner at consultancy Rystad Energy.
