There was an inescapable irony about the recent $11.5 million purchase by marine geophysical contractor Polarcus of a complete marine seismic in-sea acquisition system previously operated by competitor Dolphin Geophysical before it filed for bankruptcy last December.

By all accounts, Polarcus got a steal of a deal from the Dolphin liquidator. The streamer package of 12 x 8100-metre active streamers and key in-sea peripherals is even better than the modern systems currently operated by Polarcus, and came at a fraction of the original price.
