After more than 30 years in the offshore engineering and construction business — 28 of them with Heerema Marine Contractors where he progressed through the ranks to become chief executive — Johnny Reed was enjoying a well-earned, albeit slightly premature, retirement to the full in 2012.
Having parted company with Heerema two years earlier, he returned to Houston to take the reins of another offshore contractor, Global Industries, but it was to be a relatively short-lived assignment.
