Gangways, often found on accommodation vessels, provide a safer means of accessing a fixed or floating offshore structure. But because connection and disconnection operations are performed relatively rarely, crews may lack the training necessary to reduce risk and avoid structural damage. Using Kongsberg’s dynamic positioning controller on Ostenjo’s Edda Fortis accommodation vessel, the project will collect and analyse operational data together with simulation studies using the SIMO simulation tool package and Kongsberg Maritime’s DP algorithms.
Safe crossing
Kongsberg Maritime has teamed up with shipping company Ostensjo and the Norwegian Marine Technology Research Institute (Marintek) on a new research and development project aimed at improving safety during the connection and disconnection of motion compensated and telescopic gangways.
