Given the enormous capital investment required for a floating liquefaction facility, the chief engineer at KBR’s GVA Consultants business turned his focus to designing a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit that would be more cost effective and potentially safer, especially during offloading operations.
The result, after months of engineering, is a concept the company believes fits the bill for a cost-effective solution for stranded offshore gas fields and other projects where FLNG is a viable option, says Peter Ankarsward, chief engineer at GVA Consultants.
