The Cap-X technology will be smaller and lighter than traditional subsea templates, easier to standardise and install, and makes horizontal drilling more efficient in the shallow reservoirs often seen in the Barents Sea, according to Statoil.
The new design means Statoil is “one step closer to a “plug and play” solution on the seabed”, said Margareth Ovrum, Statoil’s executive vice president for of technology, projects and drilling.
