According to an optimistic forecast released recently by the ministry, Russian oil producers will be able to reduce foreign-made components in offshore oil and gas rigs to 60% in five years from the current 80%.
The ministry expects the share of Western hardware and services in Russia’s geological sector to decline to 70% by 2020 from the current 85%.
Industry observers say that in recent years, Rosneft and Gazprom sourced their 3D seismic jobs solely from international suppliers including Norway’s Petroleum Geo-Services, which can provide vessels with modern acquisition hardware, such as 10 to 12 streamers with sensitive hydrophones.
