The US independent’s wildcat lies in Walker Ridge Block 225, and the well is believed to be at or near total depth. The work is being carried out by the drillship Maersk Valiant in about 6780 feet of water.
Permitted depth is about 35,000 feet and the Lower Tertiary Wilcox target is said to be about 29,100 feet down.
Marathon has called the prospect “one of the last untested Paleogene four-way dip closures in the inboard Wilcox trend”.
