At the Norwegian Institute for Energy Technology’s (IFE) tracer laboratories hard work is under way to develop new tracers with different properties. The task for these tracers, or chemical substances, is to find out how much oil is left in fields, and to provide information on where in the reservoirs the remaining oil is located. This information is vital towards increasing oil recovery.
Tracing a path to greener production
Norway’s Institute for Energy Technology is developing technology to help operators pinpoint and recover hydrocarbons in a producing reservoir while dramatically reducing their reliance on chemical injection. Ole Ketil Helgesen gets an update on the institute’s tracer programme.
