Weighing up the deepwater options

Ship-shaped floating production, storage and offloading units continue to dominate the deepwater floating production seascape, as this Upstream Technology market snapshot — produced in association with Wison Offshore & Marine’s Marshall DeLuca — and the following feature articles amply demonstrate.

The ship-shaped FPSO’s ascendancy over other floating production options for 450 metres-plus water depths looks set to continue for some time. Since January 2014, another five deepwater FPSOs have come onstream, and the accompanying tables above list a further 24 such units characterised over the past year as either nearing delivery, under construction or contracted.

Brazil, inevitably, dominates the FPSO charts, accounting for no fewer than 19 of the 29 units that have either started up since January 2014 or are now in the works.
