The discovery well, Malange-1, was drilled in December 2006 in 873 feet of water to a total vertical depth of 15,562 feet.
The well hit 212 net feet of oil in the Cretaceous-age Pinda reservoir. The well was tested in March and flowed high-quality crude at a rate of 7669 barrels per day of oil.
The discovery will be followed by further drilling in addition to geologic and engineering studies to appraise the field and assess its potential reserves.
