The NFA-1 exploration well was drilled to a total depth of 1077 metres and, while it encountered gas shows during drilling, Circle said the reservoir quality in the well had not met its pre-drill estimates.
As a result, the decision was made to plug and abandon the well.
Circle reported similar results last month from its ANS-2 exploration well which also encountered gas shows while drilling but wireline log interpretations revealed the shows were not of the quality the company had hoped for.
