US independent Newfield Exploration has confirmed the loss of its Main Pass block 138 A platform in the wake of powerful Hurricane Katrina.
The company said today that an aerial survey of its operations in the eastern Gulf of Mexico failed to locate the platform which had been producing 1500 barrels of oil per day prior to the storm.
Newfield operates the facility with a 92% working interest.
