A technical fault on the Japanese drillship Chikyu meant only the top hole sections of four exploration wells and one appraisal well could be drilled in recent months.
The exploration probes were Ixion-1 in Block WA-370-P, Snarf-1 in WA-275-P, Belicoso-1 in WA-347-P and Calthorpe-1 in WA-271-P. The first three are major gas prospects; the latter is an oil target in the Exmouth area near the Laverda discovery.
