Marina-1 was drilled to total depth of 2359 metres and recorded gas shows over at least five zones, joint venture partner Drillsearch Energy said today.
Trace oil was also noted in the cuttings in some intervals.
The joint venture partners will now conduct a formation evaluation progamme, including wireline logging, and will then plug and abandon the well as planned.
The forward plan for WA-318-P is expected to involve a new seismic, followed by a further well.
