Block W06-12 lies in about 1000 metres of water, 100 kilometres off the coast and covers 3000 square kilometres.
The three-year work programme for the permit includes geotechnical studies, 180 kilometres of 2D seismic reprocessing, a 1700 square kilometre 3D seismic survey and the drilling of an exploration well. Seismic work will begin this year.
Chevron will operate the block with a 50% stake, with partners ExxonMobil and Shell each taking a 25% interest.
