The Bubut exploration well was drilled by the jack-up Deep Driller in deep, high-pressure sand reservoirs, just seven kilometres from the shoreline and only 15 kilometres from the Brunei LNG plant.
The Bubut find has also resulted in a re-evaluation of the nearby Danau structure, which was drilled in the 1970s, said the operator.
Additional appraisal work will be conducted in both fields to define the full potential.
