Seismic tool for Chinese oil giants

Chinese integrated oil giant Sinopec has chosen a Californian company's technology to help improve its seismic analysis.

Panasas said today that Sinopec has selected its parallel clustered storage solution for the high performance computing market for seismic information processing.

PetroChina and China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) are also users of Panasas' parallel storage solutions.

"Sinopec has been impressed by the performance, simple installation process, and overall ease-of-use of the Panasas storage solutions," said Zhang Xin, a senior engineer at Sinopec's Zhongyuan oilfield and senior researcher for oilfield prospecting.
