Brunei Shell Petroleum, a 50:50 joint venture between the Brunei government and Shell, said the new discovery was in the Seria North Flank area.
Shell saw similar success in September in another part of Seria, Brunei's first commercial field. Discovered in 1929, the field accounts for more than 90% of oil produced in the kingdom, which is between Malaysia and Indonesia on Borneo Island.
